1 dead after train crashes into pickup truck

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – One person is dead after a train crashed into a pickup truck in Vermillion County.

Officials responded to County Road 600 S near Hillsdale just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses stated William Gilbert, Sr., 74 of Hillsdale, was attempting to remove his 1992 Chevrolet pickup that was stuck on the tracks.

Officials report Gilbert had attempted to exit the vehicle prior to the accident.

Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene.
