INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A multimillion dollar investment paid off during Tuesday’s storms, as city leaders were able to keep track of everything as severe storms rolled in.

At the Regional Operations Center, monitors were turned into local news stations, city safety websites, twitter and dispatch, with the ROC as a hub, made a coordinated response to damage a little easier.

“Really this is our eyes and ears here. We’re monitoring social media; we’re looking at our dispatch from our computer aided dispatch system. This is what we’ve been working on the last year and a half; this is why the mayor has invested 15 million dollars in this system,” said Public Safety Director Troy Riggs.

Riggs says he’s pleased with Tuesday’s response, and that is the first time the city has used the ROC to this extent.
