BOONE, COUNTY (WISH) – On Tuesday morning the Boone County Sheriff’s Merit Board meet to discuss several issues including the recent resignation of Sheriff Ken Campbell.

Thursday Sheriff Campbell announced  his retirement  following allegations of a prostitution investigation. The sheriff is accused of “misconduct over the last three to four years with an alleged prostitute.”

Sheriff’s Merit Board President Doug Taylor released a statement saying “they are saddened and disappointed by the actions that lead to the early retirement of Sheriff Campbell.”

Taylor also said the board has no responsibility or control over the sheriff’s actions.

Chief Deputy Major Mike Nielsen said the sheriff was the target of a joint investigation by the Boone County-Hamilton County Drug Task Force and the FBI.
