INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police in Indianapolis are investigating after a body was found in the White River late Thursday night.
The man was found along the banks of the White River, near West New York Street and White River Parkway.
Police say they don’t know yet if foul play was involved or if this was an accident.
Just before 11 p.m. Thursday, they say another man was fishing along the banks.
He told police he noticed what looked like debris in the along the bank; he said he thought it was suspicious and called 911.
“We did a preliminary search of the area,” IMPD Officer Christopher Wilburn said. “Officers actually walked the bank and, at that point, they noticed what appeared to be a body.”
Investigators say they’re trying to figure out how long the man was in the water, which will include an autopsy with toxicology reports.
In the past, police have warned people to stay away from the White River.
They say it can be dangerous because of its strong current, especially at night when visibility is poor.
