PAOLI, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Police arrested a second man wanted for murder after Monday’s triple shooting in Paoli. Police are still searching for the third murder suspect as of Friday evening.
Police arrested James Davidson, 36, of Marengo, at his brother’s home near Marengo on Hogtown Road Friday evening. Davidson was taken to the Orange County Jail.
Investigators said Elbert Edward Brooks, 48, of New Albany, John Carpenter, 35, of Marengo, and Davidson were involved in the shooting in Paoli that left two men dead.
Brooks was arrested late Tuesday night. Brooks said he was waiting in a vehicle when he heard gunshots. He told police Davidson and Carpenter returned to the vehicle saying “that it had went wrong.”
Investigators said the shooting was over meth.
Nicholas Fields, 56, died Monday and Corey Michael Harris, 25, died Tuesday at a Louisville, Kentucky, hospital. A third man, Daniel Smitson, 29, is recovering from a gunshot wound to the mouth. All three victims are from Paoli, which is about 45 miles northwest of Louisville.
All three suspects face two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of robbery, and Carpenter and Davidson also face charges of being habitual criminals.
Police are still searching for Carpenter as of Friday night.
