INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The city’s targeted effort to clean up graffiti focused in Fountain Square Saturday.

Volunteers and city workers along with representatives with the non-profit “Keep Indianapolis Beautiful” spent much of the morning removing the eyesores.

They were removing some of the graffiti with a new environmentally-friendly product from Transport Packaging Solutions, a company on the city’s west side.

Linton Calvert, who owns the Fountain Square Theater Building, said he and his fellow merchants are competitors when it comes to business. But they all want the same for their historic neighborhood.

“We all have a mutual goal and that is to keep the integrity of Fountain Square very vibrant and appreciated,” said Calvert. “And graffiti getting out of here is good.”

Similar efforts will continue across the city over the next few weeks. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
