Drunk driver leads police on high-speed chase

PERU, Ind, (WISH) – An intoxicated woman lead police on a high-speed chase in Fulton County.

24-Hour News 8’s news partners at the Kokomo Tribune reports a South Bend woman driving a Pontiac Bonneville lead police on a chase on U.S. 31 at 4:0 5 p.m. Thursday.

Monica Shirhall,35, fled the scene of an accident and headed south into Miami County. 10 minutes after the accident police located her near U.S. 31 and 950 North. She then led police on a 12 mile pursuit at speeds reaching 90 mph.

Shirhall hit two stop sticks, ending the pursuit after she hit a guardrail. After crashing she tried to run away on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Shirhall was taken to the hospital for a laceration on her head. Police also say she had a high blood alcohol concentration. She was preliminary charged with fleeing police with a vehicle and operating while intoxicated in Miami County. In Fulton County, she was preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of a property-damage crash.
