IndyCar’s Simon Pagenaud shares love of soccer

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The first thing IndyCar driver Simon Pagenaud did when he arrived back in Indianapolis fresh off his Houston win was find a TV in the airport to see his beloved French team’s World Cup win.

“I managed to see the end, when they scored the second goal against Nigeria, so I’m super excited,” said Pagenaud.

The Frenchman said he even grew up wanting to play professional soccer at one point.  While he doesn’t get to watch as many games as he’d like with the busy IndyCar schedule, he thinks France has a good shot to win it all.

“They look really strong,” said Pagenaud.  “They have great attack, good defense, so I think, you know, they have a good chance.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
