BEECH GROVE (WISH) — Police in Beech Grove released a new image of one of the men they’re looking for after a shooting outside the Wal-Mart on South Emerson Monday evening.
Investigators say two men, hoping to sell thousands of dollars worth of cell phones, had pulled up in front of the Wal-Mart to meet with two buyers, when one of the buyers, fired shots.
22-year-old Jacob Faulker of Indianapolis was shot in the arm and upper chest. Detectives confirmed he was treated and released from IU Health Methodist Hospital.
The other seller, 27-year-old Daniel Witter, was not hurt.
Investigators now say this wasn’t a Craigslist meeting. They say the buyers and sellers didn’t know each other. They’d been put in touch by another person, and then planned this meeting.
Two suspects got away with the sellers’ truck, full of cell phones, two rifles and two pistols.
“I thought I heard firecrackers, but it turned out to be gunshots,” said one witness, who ran toward the commotion. “I saw the guy down. I saw the truck,” he added.
“There’s been too many things happening,” said shopper Shelly McGill Tuesday evening.
McGill says she tries to stay away from transactions with people she doesn’t know, adding, you just never know, even in a public place these days.
“Buy it new or don’t buy it at all,” she says is her motto, saying her son bought a stolen phone off Facebook recently, and it didn’t work.
Police are now looking for the two men who got away, one in the sellers’ 2008 black Chevy Silverado, license plate number TK675MCA. The other was driving a black Chevy Malibu.
Anyone with information on this crime should call the Beech Grove Police Department or Crimestoppers, at 262-TIPS.
