Butler Police, IMPD investigate armed robbery near campus

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Butler University Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to an alley behind the 700 block of Berkley Road around 12:19 a.m.

Police say the suspect approached the victims, grabbed the purse from one of them and pushed that individual to the ground. Officers say the suspect then ran eastbound in the alley.

Butler Police and IMPD responded but didn’t locate the suspect, who is described as a dark-complexioned African American man, 18-20 years old, 5 foot 10 inches tall, with skinny build and short hair. He was wearing a red shirt, dark pants or shorts and was armed with a silver revolver.

Anyone with information is asked to call police. Butler asks that people continue to be aware of their surroundings and suggests residents in the area program the following numbers into their phones:

  • 317-940-9999 emergency
  • 317-940- BUPD (2873) non-emergency
