INDIANAPOLIS, (WISH) — One dog died in a house fire Wednesday afternoon on the city’s south east side.

Indianapolis firefighters were dispatched to the 1000 block of Villa Avenue just after 4 p.m. on the report of a fire.

When they arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and fire in the rear of the house.

It took crews about 20 minutes to get the fire under control.

No one was home at the time the fire broke out.

A neighbor was able to rescue one of the dogs, but the other died in the fire. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
