FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — The owners of a Fishers home daycare were sentenced this week following the death of a toddler in their care last year.

Sandra and Daniel Wahl were both sentenced to three years in prison. They each received two days of jail credit and had one year of their sentence suspended, which will be served on probation. They will spend just under two years in prison.

One condition of their probation is that they cannot care for any minor child other than their own son.

A Hamilton County jury found the two guilty of involuntary manslaughter in May. The pair operated the Home Away from Home Daycare. On June 20, 2013, a 20-month-old toddler died in their care.

The child was found wedged between the wall and the vertical bar of a swinging metal baby gate, according to court documents.

Although the coroner’s office ruled the death accidental, prosecutors believe the Wahls provided reckless supervision as a child care provider.
