INDIANAPOLIS (WISH-TV) – Police and rescue crews were called to a car into a retention pond on the city’s northeast side early Wednesday.
Around 4:15 a.m. police initially responded to a report of a carjacking at the Hilton Hotel near East 82nd Street and Shadeland Avenue.
Upon further investigation police determined there had been no car jacking.
When they arrived at the scene they found a car partially submerged in a retention pond just east of the hotel and a soaking wet female standing on the bank of the pond.
Divers went into the water and determined there was no one in the vehicle or pond.
Police now say it was more likely a case of an intoxicated driver who accidentally drove off the roadway and into the pond.
Investigators say the woman managed to get out of the car on her own. Divers assisted in recovering the vehicle.
