LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A homeless man was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison for inappropriately touching a 16-year-old girl who is mentally handicapped.

Scott Johnson, 49, was convicted of criminal deviate conduct and sexual battery earlier this month.

According to prosecutors, the incident happened in August 2012 in a Columbian Park bathroom. The teen was eventually able to push him away and run home.

Because of a 2006 sexual assault conviction in Colorado, Johnson was also found to be a habitual offender and must register as a sex offender for life. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
