HANCOCK COUNTY (WISH) – Autopsy results show the human remains found in Hancock County are of 56-year-old Jody Scroggins.

Investigators say the remains they found near Greenfield, Thursday morning are Scroggins’, the man who went missing on June 24.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, workers at a nearby business reported an odor in the 3100 block of west U.S. 40, on Thursday. Officers found the decomposed remains of a man in a creek bed. Police were unsure if the remains were those of Jody Scroggins, who was reported missing.

Cpt. Jeff Rasche hoped this would not be the answer to their investigation.

The autopsy ruled out foul play in Scroggins death. However, the exact cause of death is pending toxicology reports. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
