Man hit, killed by car at Eagle Creek Park entrance

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man was hit and killed after he stepped out in front of a car on 56th Street, at the entrance to Eagle Creek Park, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey said Carlos Diaz, 31, was driving eastbound on W. 56th Street when he saw a man standing in the middle of the road holding a black trash bag.

Diaz told police the man walked right out in front of his car. Diaz then hit the man.

The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead .

Lt. Bailey said the victim’s vehicle was found parked on the west side of 56th Street, at the crash scene. The car was still running with the radio blaring, according to the police report.

Diaz had two children in the car with him at the time of the crash. Nobody else was injured, according to police.

Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
