FLORA, Ind. (WLFI) – Community members came together on Sunday to pay their respects at a visitation for Tipton County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jacob Calvin at Carroll High School in Flora.

Carroll and Tipton County residents, law enforcement officers from across the state, and friends and family were all in attendance. Calvin died last Saturday while responding to a crash on State Road 28 and County Road 500 West in Tipton County. He rolled his squad car on his way to the crash scene.

Calvin is the third Tipton County Sheriff’s deputy to die in the last eight years, the last being in 2011.

“It’s a reminder of just exactly how dangerous this profession is,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz. “It’s not a job, it’s a calling, it’s a way of life. You know men and women around here and all across the country put this uniform on regardless of the color. And they go to work knowing full well that they could potentially be walking into a dangerous, volatile situation.”

Calvin’s funeral will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Carroll High School. It will be followed by a procession to Maple Lawn Cemetery.
