INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is still investigating a disturbing shooting over the weekend that injured seven people.
The shooting happened in the 700 block of Broad Ripple Avenue on Saturday just before 2:30 a.m.
Before the shooting happened there were already several security measures in place.
In the past, IMPD tackled loitering outside of Broad Ripple. Officers also enforced curfew violations on unsupervised teens.
Some business owners have noticed a large police presence before the shootings even happened.
Rick Payne, owner of Wild Beaver Saloon, estimates there are about 20 IMPD officers in Broad Ripple on Friday and Saturday nights. Some of those officers are in squad cars, others are on bikes, or on foot.
“I don’t know where the solutions lie,” said Payne. “I’m sure a lot of business owners are frustrated.”
Payne estimates he lost $10,000 over the weekend because of the shooting.
A meeting between IMPD and Broad Ripple business owners has not been scheduled as of Monday morning.
