Family friend Sabrina Young said Officer Renn would be asked from time to time whether he would become a supervisor or higher rank within the department. His answer: I’m a patrol officer and that’s what I always want to be.
During his 22-year career with the department, Officer Renn received the Medal of Bravery in 2013. He also received a Letter of Commendation a couple years ago for his efforts during the Indiana State Fair stage rigging collapse.
Officer Renn is survived by his wife, with whom he would have celebrated 25 years of marriage in September, and his parents.
