Burglars use stolen car to smash into pawn shop

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A pair of burglars used a stolen car to smash through the wall of a pawn shop early Tuesday.

Shortly after 4 a.m. IMPD officers responded to a burglary alarm at Dock Brothers Pawn shop near 25th Street and North Meridian.

Police say the vehicle penetrated a metal security door, exterior bricks and concrete blocks of the near north side business.

The burglars then reportedly grabbed as many guns as they could and fled east on 25th Street.  Police were in pursuit when the suspects lost control of the vehicle and flipped it onto its roof just a couple of blocks east at 25th Street and Talbott Street.

Both suspects fled on foot, but 18-year-old Kevin Williamson  was captured by a K-9 officer. That suspect was treated for a dog bite. Police continue to search for the second suspect.

Officers recovered all five guns stolen from the pawn shop near the crime scene. Little is known about the vehicle that was used but police say the suspects carjacked someone near 53rd and Broadway.

Williamson was preliminary charged with burglary, resisting law enforcement, auto theft, theft and possession of a firearm.

Owners of the shop declined an interview request Tuesday morning.

Property damage was estimated at $1,025. The thieves stole around $500 worth of items from the pawn shop.
