CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A judge sentenced a Carmel day care worker to five years on Tuesday.

Last month a Hamilton County jury convicted Kirsten Phillips. She was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide.

Authorities say she is partly responsible for 5-month-old Conor Tilson’s death at an unlicensed day care last year.

Authorities say the boy was placed in a broken crib in a room with no adults and no baby monitor. Investigators say Phillips found the boy not breathing.

Phillips will split her sentence between the Department of Correction, Community Corrections and probation. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
