Trailer catches fire on I-70 eastbound in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY (WISH) – A trailer fire on I-70 near the 32 mile marker tied up traffic in the eastbound lanes for about an hour on Tuesday night.

At 7:19 Tuesday evening 52-year-old Ronald Weidenhammer’s Volvo tractor pulling a box trailer caught fire. Weidenhammer noticed smoke coming from the driver’s compartment. He was able to get to the emergency should, but could not contain the fire.

The vehicle and its contents were considered a total loss.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for nearly one hour. A cause for the fire was still under investigation as of Tuesday evening.
