ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Elwood were investigating Wednesday after a 66-year-old woman was found dead.
Elwood Police Department officials said Linda Speer was discovered in the 1800 block of North C Street around 11 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say her daughter hadn’t heard from her and went to check on her.
Officials say foul play is suspected and now neighbors in the area are concerned about safety in their typically quite town.
“We’ve never had this kind of thing happen here in Elwood or around anything this close,” said Janet Goldsberry, who has known Speer since childhood.
Now neighbors and life-long friends are mourning the loss of a woman they say was trusting, giving and kind.
“She just was a wonderful lady. she’d give her shirt off her back to anybody that needed it,” said Judy Shaw, her next door neighbor.
Speer’s friends tell 24-Hour News 8 she leaves behind two daughters, several grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Speer’s cause of death was caused by multiple blunt for trauma injuries to her head and multiple sharp force trauma injuries to the chest.
