PERU, Ind. (WISH) – Police arrested an orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday on preliminary charges of attempted murder.
Deputies say Gregory Konrath, 46, a surgeon at Dukes Memorial Hospital made a plan to shoot his ex-wife.
According to 24-Hour News 8’s news partner at the Pharos Tribune, police were called to check on Konrath’s girlfriend because she was suicidal. However, she was not suicidal, instead she told police of Konrath’s plan to kill his ex-wife who lives in Lafayette.
The girlfriend had a recording of a recent conversation were Konrath told her the details of what he would do to accomplish his plan.
Konrath planned to make the death look like a suicide. He told his girlfriend he already had a gun and he would wear gloves and two layers of clothing, so he could easily discard them after the killing.
The girlfriend was also going to be Konrath’s alibi for his whereabouts during the murder.
Konrath told police he believed his plan was “justice”.
A search of Konrath’s home produced a loaded caliber revolver inside a plastic bag and covered with loose latex gloves in the garage.
Konrath was taken into custody and held at the Miami County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
