INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Officers from around the state are covering Indianapolis city streets Friday as Metro Police attend the funeral for fallen Officer Perry Renn.
The Cumberland Police Department is one that stepped in to help.
Officer Brad Hinshaw with CPD said covering Indianapolis is part of their training since they are sometimes called to assist IMPD.
He said the entire department mourns the loss of Officer Renn.
On Friday, CPD officers will patrol the East District for IMPD.
“Anytime that we can help our brothers and sisters, we’re more than willing to help because we know that they would do the same for us,” Hinshaw said. “We all take the same runs, we all go on the same types of calls, so when we lose one it hurts.”
Like many, Officer Hinshaw wears a bracelet showing the thin blue line.
That, he said, in memory of Officer Renn and other officers before him who gave their lives in the line of duty.
