IMPD enforces road closures in Broad Ripple to prevent crime

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shut down a main stretch of Broad Ripple Avenue in an effort to stop crime.

IMPD said only cabs and police cars were allowed on the road. For now, College to Guilford will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

The stretch of road is the same place where seven people were shot last weekend.

24-Hour News 8 spoke with people who went to Broad Ripple’s bars Friday evening, asking if the new measures made them feel safer.

“I’m having a good time. I feel pretty safe, they seem like they beefed up security and it seems like they’ve responded to this recent violence. I feel comfortable,” said George Thomas.

The weekly road closure won’t impact parking in the area. It is already a rule that after 9 p.m. only cabs and police cars can park on the street.
