INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has identified the person who was hit and killed by a car. Police are still searching for the car, which fled the scene after hitting the victim.

Police said a bicyclist saw a body in a ditch in the 8800 block of Township Road Saturday morning. Officers arrived to the area of 86th Street and Township Line Road to find the body of Patrick Hurd, 22, of Merrillville. He was pronounced dead by EMS.

Investigators believe that Hurd was walking northbound on Township Line Road sometime after midnight on Saturday when he was hit by a vehicle heading northbound. That vehicle then fled the scene.

Police say the vehicle’s impact caused Hurd to fall into the ditch area, where he was found nearly 11 hours later.

According to police, Hurd was on his way back to a friend’s house from a nearby gas station. He was either carrying or riding a skateboard that was found at the scene.

IMPD officials do not have a description of the vehicle, but they believe it will have moderate to significant front passenger side damage.

Anyone with the information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS, especially anyone that was driving or walking on Township Line Road around or after midnight that may remember someone walking or riding a skateboard.

Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
