INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There’s a movement to include women as equals and one Indianapolis parish is jumping on board.

On Sunday, the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests ordained one woman a priest and another a deacon.

Priest Janice Sevre Duszynska says it’s a renewed movement in a reformed Catholic church to see a God as beyond gender.

“Where is the feminine image of God and this is very hurtful to our psyches, whereas it gives so much power to men to think that God is created only their masculine image,” Priest Duszynska said.

These church members believe this is the rise of justice. They say they believe in Pope Francis’ idea of economic inclusion and urge him to believe in gender equality also.

Priest Duszynska says there are about 160 ordained women priests in the United States. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
