INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A tradition on Monday helped kick off this week’s events at the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration.

The Mayor’s Breakfast was held at the Indiana Convention Center, which started the IBE business conference.

Mayor Greg Ballard says it’s a great way to get people involved and that business is a very important part of Summer Celebration.

“The goal is always to increase the business community and the minority community and we really want that, to give them the knowledge they need, not only to work with the city but just to have their own businesses thrive,” Ballard said. “So that’s why it’s important to bring in speakers from the outside and they do a really, really good job in the city.”

Summer Celebration runs through Sunday ending with the IBE Gospel Explosion. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
