INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A $30 million investment will improve IUPUI’s Natatorium and streets in and around IUPUI’s campus, city and university officials announced on Monday.

Officials said the plan will better connect IUPUI to downtown Indianapolis.

Part of the project will go toward transforming Michigan and New York streets, which will become two-way between West Street and Haughville. Streets around campus will have more sidewalks, safer pedestrian crossing areas, bike lanes, new lighting, art and rain gardens. Traffic restrictions will start in 2015.

The project will also include renovations to IUPUI’s Natatorium. IU is investing $10 million and the Lilly Endowment is matching the investment. The upgrades include a new roof with skylights, improved lighting and pool filtration, a new heating and cooling system and other needed repairs. The Natatorium is hosting the Olympic diving trials in 2016.
