Shooter in custody after man killed on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police in Indianapolis are investigating after a man was shot and killed on the city’s northeast side Monday afternoon.

Dispatchers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say officers responded to the 8700 block of Gunpowder Drive just after noon. This is near East 86th Street and Sargent Road.

When officers arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police immediately took the shooter into custody and recovered a gun.

The shooter, the victim, a woman and a child were inside the home at the time. Detectives believe a domestic incident led up to the shooing, but they haven’t released specifics of that incident.

The shooter was taken to IMPD Headquarters for further questioning. Police say this is an active investigation and the shooter has not yet been arrested.

The victim has been identified but his name has not been released, pending notification of family.
