INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — In the last few years, Indianapolis has seen tremendous growth downtown, including apartments and grocery stores, but there aren’t many places to work out.

Now, a new YMCA is coming to the CityWay site, to be located at the corner of Delaware and South Streets.

The groundbreaking is Wednesday, with the location scheduled to open in December 2015.

The entire building will be 100,000 square feet, 87,000 of which is for the new Y. The rest will be medical offices.

“This Y will have three gymnasiums, two indoor swimming pools, we’ll have a culinary studio to help people learn how to eat healthier and even cook healthier,” said Tangela Floyd with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. “We’ll have an elevated indoor running track, everything that you can think of, so no more excuses Indianapolis.”

The Y has two other downtown locations that will remain open: the Athenaeum and Indy Bike Hub.

Partners for the project include the City of Indianapolis, Eli Lilly and United Way.

Eli Lilly donated the property for the new location and an additional $5 million to help fund the site.

In total, $17 million has been raised, but $5 million more is still needed to complete the project.
