WASHINGTON, D.C. (WISH) – The head of a major healthcare system in central Indiana is scheduled to testify in front of Congress Wednesday.

I-Team 8 has confirmed Dan Evans, President and CEO of IU Health, will testify at 10 a.m. in front of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

The VA has been under fire for months, accused of long delays in patient care and allegedly secret schedules to make it appear patients were seen faster.

An advisory from the House Veterans Affairs Committee said, in part, “In light of VA’s current delays in care crisis, examining best practices at non-VA medical facilities is a crucial step in helping VA better manage its abundance of resources,”

Wednesday’s hearing involves a look at how private hospitals are doing it right. Evans is expected to talk about how – in the private sector – schedules now offer same-day appointments for primary care services.

I-Team 8’s Chief Investigative Reporter Karen Hensel will have more on Wednesday’s hearing on 24-Hour News 8 beginning at 5 p.m.
