INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The unofficial start to the high school football season kicks off Friday night at North Central High School with the annual North-South All-Star Classic.

Both squads have spent the entire week practicing at Key Stadium at the University of Indianapolis and staying in dorms, getting a feel for what their college careers might be like.

Westfield head coach Jake Gilbert leads the South team which is loaded with Indy-area players ready to sport their prep colors one last time. There’s always a lot of pride on the line.

“I think it’s a really great opportunity,” said cornerback Tony Allen from Ben Davis. “I get to play one last game representing Ben Davis. Every time I talk to somebody older, they always say I wish I could go back and play high school football.”

Allen will play college ball at St. Francis.

Westfield quarterback Nick Ferrer told 24-Hour News 8 he and his teammates have a point to prove.

“We have a lot of pride being from the Indy area,” Ferrer said. “I think we believe that Indy football is just as good, if not better than, anywhere else in the country, so definitely a little bit of that’s on the line.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at North Central.
