Rape charge now filed in Elwood murder case

ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – A rape charge has been filed against an Elwood man who is accused of killing his sister-in-law.

According 24-Hour News 8’s partner, The Herald Bulletin, George Knotts, 68, now faces four felony counts in connection with the assault.

Knotts is accused of killing 66-year-old Linda Speer in her home in the 1800 block of North C Street in Elwood on July 6 or 7. Authorities said her daughter found her dead body after she hadn’t heard from her and went to check on her.

According to the probable cause affidavit released Thursday afternoon, Speer had been choked with a pink scarf and stabbed 14 times with a sharp object. There was also evidence she had been sexually assaulted.
