Man accused in clerk’s murder appears in court

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man accused of shooting and killing a defenseless clerk had his first day in court on Friday.

Deputies escorted Desi Thomas into a Marion County courtroom Friday morning. The 25-year-old is charged with murder and robbery.

Thomas is accused of shooting and killing Harry Briggs inside a south side gas station on June 4.

During a hearing Friday, Thomas spoke softly as he responded to the charges. A judge appointed Thomas a public defender during the hearing.

Prosecutors have not determined if they will pursue the death penalty in Thomas’ case.

Thomas’ next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
