KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) – Two soldiers surprised their kids with an early return from Afghanistan on Thursday afternoon.

Army brothers sergeant Jake Lee and specialist David Lee returned home a week early from their final tour in Afghanistan.

The Kokomo Tribune reports the two fathers put together the scheme to surprise them at Highland Park on Thursday with the help of the children’s grandmother.

The brothers were picked up from the Lafayette Armory on Wednesday, and that’s when they put the plan in motion.

David, 32, and Jake,28, were deployed nearly a year ago with members of the 1638 Transportation Co. out of Remington, Indiana with the 101 Sustainment Airborne in Afghanistan.

The fathers told the Kokomo Tribune that the moment was “surreal.”

More than 65 homes were decorated in the Lees’ Forest Park neighborhood in Kokomo to welcome the two back home. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
