Man arrested after stabbing in Elwood

ELWOOD, Ind. (WISH) – A man was arrested Sunday after a stabbing that seriously injured another man in Elwood.

According to 24-Hour News 8’s partners, The Herald Bulletin, police responded to the call in the 1600 block of South E Street around 2 a.m. and found Andrew J.K. Anthony, 19, with a bloody knife in his hands and the victim lying on the ground nearby.

According to Anthony, he started to chase the man after the man allegedly threw a rock into Anthony’s yard. Anthony got dressed and went after the man with an unsheathed knife with an 8-inch blade. The man pushed Anthony to the ground and struck him in the face when Anthony caught up to him. That’s when Anthony stabbed the man, he told police.

The 23-year-old victim was taken to Elwood St. Vincent Mercy Hospital after the stabbing, then taken by ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital about 5:30 a.m.

Police said the victim’s name isn’t being released yet because some family members have not been informed. The victim is formerly of Elwood and was reportedly in town for a class reunion. Police don’t believe the two knew each other.

According to Elwood Police Chief Phil Caldwell, the victim was in serious but stable condition as of Sunday evening. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
