INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An 8-month-old baby from Indianapolis was mauled by a family dog in Dayton, Ohio on Sunday. And after some digging, it’s possible this may not have been the first time the dog has attacked.

A neighbor tells 24-Hour-News 8 she filed charges six weeks ago after her dog was attacked. She says her dog was attacked by the same dog responsible for killing an innocent child Sunday night.

Video of first responders on the scene shows frantic family members and neighbors crowding around the crime tape. A 911 call sheds light on the panic surrounding the attack.

Dispatch: 911 what’s the address of your emergency?
Caller: My neighbor. The baby’s dead.
Caller: “She just knocked on my door. Banging on my door. She had a baby in her hands. The baby’s not breathing. I need you to get here now.”

Dayton police say 8-month-old Jonathon Quarles, Jr. was staying over at his stepgrandmother’s house. Police say she had just taken her eyes off the baby for a moment when the dog attacked.

Dispatch: Where’s the baby bleeding from?
Caller: The baby’s dead. (crying) You all need to get here. The baby’s dead.

The Dayton home where the attack happened has an American Staffordshire terrier registered to its address. Its owner told police it had never shown aggression. However, it’s the same dog Isabelle Crickmore says attacked her beagle on June 3.

“As soon as I turned back around, it had her on the dog and was attacking her and I had the leash and was trying to break it up and a couple seconds later it was gone,” said Crickmore.

Crickmore says the owner was supposed to show up in court, but isn’t sure if that ever happened. She believes the loss of this little one’s life was entirely preventable.

“Something needs to be done. Dog definitely needs to go for sure now,” said Crickmore.

A scar serves as a reminder how lucky Crickmore’s dog was to survive the attack. Emergency 911 calls weren’t enough to save Jonathon’s.

Caller: (woman cries)
Dispatch: Is she there to talk on the phone?
Caller: Yes ma’m. (woman cries please). You all hurry up. Please. Please.

The coroner’s office ruled the death accidental. They said the baby died from multiple injuries.

The dog is being quarantined while its fate is decided. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
