INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a man was sleeping at his north side home when he awoke to flames.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, Terry Alan Thomas, 55, said he heard a crash at the front window and then saw flames erupt around 7:45 p.m. Monday night at his home in the 3900 block of Boulevard Place.
Thomas evacuated safely. Nobody else was home at the time.
Firefighters were able to get the fire out in 25 minutes. IFD said thick black smoke could be seen from miles away.
IFD said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
Damage to the home is estimated at $50,000. IFD said a neighboring home was also damaged in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
