Man dead after shooting on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man is dead following a shooting on the city’s northeast side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD Officer Chris Wilburn said witnesses flagged down officers who were patrolling the area around 8:20 p.m. Monday. They told police a man was down at 38th and Station Streets, next to a Family Dollar store.

The victim was found unconscious, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the scene in opposite directions. One was described as a black man wearing cutoff shorts and a white T-shirt.

Police said no gunshots were heard before the incident occurred.

Homicide detectives are still investigating the shooting. Police are unsure of the motive.

The victim will be identified following an autopsy.
