INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Three people were taken to the hospital early Monday morning after a crash on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. on East 36th Street near North Rural Street.
Police at the scene say the car was heading east on 36th Street at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road for an unknown reason and hit a tree. Three people were inside of the vehicle at the time of the crash — two people were trapped.
All three patients were taken to area hospitals. One passenger and the driver were listed in critical condition. The second passenger’s condition wasn’t immediately clear.
Police haven’t said what may have led up to the crash. Officers believe alcohol may have played a role.
Dispatchers with IMPD say 36th and Rural was closed after the crash. Around 5:20 a.m., they anticipated the roadway to be closed for some time.
