Hammond man’s body found in Newton Co. lake

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The body of a Hammond, Indiana man who drowned Saturday evening at JC Murphy Lake has been found, according to DNR officials.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said the body of Saul Lopez, 24, was recovered Tuesday morning by the Kentland Fire Department from JC Murphy Lake at Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area in Newton County.

Conservation officers and the Kentland Fire Department had been searching for Lopez since he disappeared under the water on Saturday.

The Newton County Coroner’s Office took custody of Lopez’s body at the scene.

Indiana Conservation officers are continuing to investigate the death of Lopez.
