AVON, Ind. (WISH) – An Avon teenager and her dog are lucky to be alive after a lightening strike caused her house to catch on fire.
The fire broke out around 10:30 Wednesday morning in the Sunchase Woods subdivision.
Good Samaritan Matthew Petro lives down the street from the fire. Petro and another man knocked on the teenager’s door.
“I started to smell smoke in our house so I went outside and alerted the neighbors that everybody needed to evacuate the house and at that point, the roof was fully involved on the house,” Petro said.
Petro is also a Zionsville firefighter.
That Avon house fire is just one of several being blamed on lighting strikes. There were also house fires in Carmel and Noblesville on Wednesday.
The fire in Carmel was on the 14000 block of Alderbrook Trail, near 146th Street and Gray Road. Everyone was able to get out of the home, but the home’s roof was severely damaged.
Homeowners were also able to escape a lightning fire in Noblesville. The fire occurred in the Lochaven neighborhood on Strathaven Road. That fire left about $30,000 in damages.
