Seymour man arrested for welfare fraud, theft

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Police arrested a Seymour man for welfare fraud and theft following a six-month investigation.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Billy E. Douglas, 42, was working for a masonry company in Jackson County but also filed for and received unemployment benefits between December 2010 and April 2013. The benefits totaled $16,220.

With penalties assessed by the Indiana Department of WorkForce Development (DWD), Douglas owes the state of Indiana $24,542.

Douglas was charged with theft and welfare fraud, both felonies.
