Trash can blamed in downtown apartment fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Fire Department officials said fire in a small trash can prompted the evacuation of a downtown apartment building Thursday at 2:07 p.m.

One person was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

It happened in the 400 block of North Illinois Street, which is just a couple blocks from Monument Circle.

Everyone was able to safely exit the building. The fire was out in five minutes.

The incident happened on the third floor of the apartment building.

Three units were also damaged by water. Damage was estimated at $20,000
