TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Two Monticello women have been arrested Thursday afternoon suspected of snatching more than a dozen purses from multiple retail stores across the area.
Officers told News 18 that both Lafayette and Monticello police said the women are connected to a handful of thefts in each of their cities.
Wednesday night on 24-Hour News 8’s sister station News 18, shared the story of Candace Yoakum. A woman who said her purse was snatched Tuesday evening from the Pay Less on Beck Lane in Lafayette.
Police said they made the two arrests Thursday afternoon. Lindsey Hogg, 22, and Rachel Hickman, 23, were taken into custody. The two women were booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail on suspicion of theft related to eight incidents.
Detectives said the purse snatchings happened at different retail stores in the Lafayette area. Lafayette police worked with the Monticello Police Department and the White County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to the eight in Lafayette, Monticello Police Chief Randy Soliday said his department has six reports of purse snatchings at retail stores. He said charges will be filed against the women in White County as well.
Lafayette police could not confirm that any of Thursday’s charges are connected to Yoakum’s incident.
