Coroner identifies person hit by sheriff’s vehicle

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Marion County Coroner has identified the person hit by a sheriff’s vehicle Thursday night as 64-year-old Daniel Hanley.

The accident happened in the 5200 block of Madison Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

The driver of the van was heading southbound on Madison Avenue when he hit a pedestrian.  Investigators confirmed that Hanley was hit by another vehicle before he was struck by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office van.

The coroner has ruled Hanley’s death an accident.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or speed were contributing factors in the crash.

Investigators are asking the community to help them find a potential suspect, suspect vehicle or witness.
