Former deputy sentenced for assault

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A former Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced Friday for an assault on a handcuffed inmate.

David Carrico was found guilty of the crime in May and has been sentenced to one year of home detention and one year on probation.

Officials say the incident happened in 2012, when surveillance video showed Carrico assaulting the inmate during processing.

The inmate was treated for multiple abrasions at Community North Hospital.  The victim filed a citizen complaint after the incident.

Carrico was fired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department after the assault. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
