INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — As strong storms threaten the 2014 Brickyard weekend, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is working to keep fans safe and informed no matter what the weather brings.

IMS President Doug Boles says officials from nearly every state and local law enforcement agency, plus National Weather Service representative are at the track keeping a close eye on the weather.

Boles says his team will be on top of the storms.

“If weather is on the way, we’ll be broadcasting it on the big screen video board here long before it gets here. So people can see the radar, get an idea of what’s coming toward us,” said Boles.

As fans file into the stands, IMS urges everyone to pay close attention, come up with a severe weather plan, listen to the PA system and watch the radar on the big screens.

“Some of those things people to figure out a little bit on their own, so that’s why we’re giving them as much information as we can so they can plan for things”

Boles said fans should know how far away they parked, and outline the quickest route to get back home. But many fans say bad weather won’t stop them from enjoying the race.

Boles said if the race doesn’t happen Sunday, it will likely be moved to Monday morning or early afternoon. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
